WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and item Level Upgrade current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an Item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade item system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests, based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
