How to Replace an Audi spare key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and Audi A1 car Key where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and audi spare key cost RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors audi keyless go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter key for audi the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good news is they are quite affordable and readily available, especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an excellent choice.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi car key's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. If the sensor audi spare key Cost fails, it can cause problems for the transmission and the other car's components.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe around 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi spare key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
