Upgrades give you boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons).
