WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item upgrader mod owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which displays an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade items discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will be less expensive, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could mean engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade item routes and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
