World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied multiple times or item upgrader kit replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the equipment to which it is used (for instancefor example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment that require the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.
