Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot cleaner with mop in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
