Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its base stats or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, like rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They give you an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, retrieved as loot by enemies, or obtained from missions and chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be at a certain level before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the player has to select it, and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade stats will be as well as the necessary element or material required for the upgrade to take place.
