How to Replace an Audi New key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It's a bit tricky to test as there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.
I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.
A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, audi a3 key fob and/or a misfire while in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially when they're a Bosch unit like ours.
