Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes, boosting its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Upgrade components

They can be purchased from vendors, or found in loot, dropped by enemies or received as a reward for missions or chests. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level before you can upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the required material or component needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be placed on any type of equipment.
