Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be incorporated into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, providing an added bonus or effect when the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, retrieved as loot gathered by enemies or obtained from chests or missions. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they are upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players must select it and then click on the Upgrade button in the toolbar. Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in some fundamental ways. Gear is now classified into tracks and each item is able to be upgraded a certain number of times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however the materials required aren't as high.
