Performing a basic car service at home can save you money and give you a better understanding of how your vehicle works. Turn the filter into place by hand until it’s firmly in place, but avoid excessive torque.

Once the oil has fully drained, put the plug back in and clamp it firmly. Avoid excessive force or you could strip the housing. Insert the funnel and add fresh oil into the engine through the oil port. Add the amount specified in your owner’s manual, usually 4–6 liters. Wait a minute for the oil to settle, then pull and reinsert the dipstick. Add more if needed, but avoid overfilling.

After adding the oil, start the engine and let it run for about a minute. Stop the engine and examine for seepage around the both sealing points. Also, check the oil level once more. If everything looks good, dispose of the old oil and filter properly. Most retailers take used motor oil.

Now, inspect the air intake filter—it’s typically found inside a dark housing near the top of the engine. Open the housing and remove the old filter. If debris is visible, install a fresh replacement. Reattach the lid with all fasteners tight.
