World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item can help players compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it will be able to deal. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrader mod by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

Players can upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an exclusive item, or the item upgrader kit is a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5%. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the Best item upgrade. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an item can be affected by the luck of the item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
